Van Wert Live announces the return of a cherished Van Wert icon! Jerry Beard was the conduit connecting people with live entertainment at the Niswonger for 13 years. He was the original Box Office Director since 2007 and retired in 2019 from the Van Wert Area Performing Arts Foundation. Before his departure, Jerry carefully trained Quincy Thompson on the functions and art of the coveted position. After taking a year of pandemic-pause, Jerry Beard is returning to the Niswonger Box Office to share in the joy of what he does so well, taking care of people. Quincy Thompson, current Van Wert Live Box Office Director is elated for the return of her mentor who will fulfill the Customer Relations Specialist role within her department.

“I am so excited to have Jerry back in the box office doing what he loves - taking care of patrons. It brings me peace of mind knowing our Van Wert LIVE family is being left in good hands while Weston and I welcome our son in July," states Quincy. "Jerry introduced me to the Box Office in 2019 and I am so glad to be together again in 2021.”

I took time over "juice" at Brewed Expressions (we both highly recommend) to reminisce and look ahead at the moments to come.

Q: What do you look forward to the most about returning to the Box Office as part of the Van Wert Live Team?
A: It's always been about the people. Satisfying the needs of customers with solutions that make their experience the best is what drives me. Throughout my life and career I have enjoyed working with people and building relationships.  Whether that be through my 43 years at Eaton, teaching Sunday School, serving on the Crestview School Board, serving on City Council, selling tickets in the Box Office, it's helping others that brings me the greatest joy.

Q: There have been many changes in the operation some by design and others by necessity. How do you think people will feel about the changes.
A: I truly look forward to sharing the reasons for the changes. For instance, Digital Ticketing will be something new for patrons. I look forward to easing them through the transition by helping them adapt or providing printed tickets for those who need. Quincy and I will work closely together to ensure that everyone has a ticketed solution that works for them. The dynamic programming instead of a grand series will give freedom for many patrons to just buy what they want when they want it. The new way to buy tickets will be more simple and I think once customers understand it all, they will really like it. I look forward to helping people learn to get tickets in a new way.

Q: Do you think people ready to return to live entertainment?
A: Yes. People are getting back together again and feeling comfortable. The immunization provides greater peace of mind. I'm so eager to see the friends I've missed. I met many special people during my time at the Box Office and I'm ready to reconnect and share entertaining moments together, again.

Q: What type of entertainment is your favorite?
A: Musicals are at the top of my list but I truly appreciate all kinds. Sampling new styles is truly my favorite thing because we don't know if we like it until we try it. I like to experience a variety of musical styles and am open to finding new favorites. That's the beauty of having entertainment right here at home. I get to try new things!
